You will receive up to 3 text messages per week to help you during your pregnancy and up until your child’s first birthday. Medication During Pregnancy
The following over-the-counter (OTC) medications may be safely taken after 12 weeks gestation by a pregnant woman, following the directions on the container for appropriate dosage. If you have any questions regarding medications you are currently taking or have been prescribed to you by another provider, please contact our office.

Mild headaches, aches or pains Acetaminophen (Tylenol), Regular or extra strength Call if severe and/or persistent headaches.
Nasal congestion, sinusitis, allergies/cold symptoms Sudafed, Ocean Nasal Spray, Benadryl Call if no improvement in 2-3 days or condition worsens.
Cough Robitussin (plain, no alcohol) Persistent cough
Sore throat, minor irritation Throat lozenges, Cepacol lozenges, Chloroseptic, salt water gargles Severe or persistent sore throat
Mild rashes/allergies Calamine lotion, baking soda baths, corn starch, Aveeno lotion/bath Call if no relief within 3 to 4 days.
Diarrhea Kaopectate, Immodium, Clear liquids x 24 hours then BRAT diet (Bananas, rice, applesauce, toast), no dairy products For diarrhea that persists for more than 2 days and is accompanied by fever or severe diarrhea or blood, call provider.
Fever Acetaminophen, Tylenol regular or extra strength Call your provider if fever persists, (>101°Call if no relief) without relief with medication
Constipation Metamucil, Colace/ Pericolace, Increase fiber and fluids, exercise Avoid severe straining.
Hemorrhoids Tucks pads, Anusol, warm sitz baths 3 times daily, witch hazel pads Bleeding or severe pain
Heartburn/Indigestion Tums, Maalox/Mylanta, decrease caffeine and chocolate, do not recline until 2 hours after eating If no relief, call provider
Nausea Vitamin B6 (50 mg, 1 time per day) Ginger Tea, Bio-Bands, Peppermint, Ginger candy, (eat every 2 hours) If you experience persistent vomiting, decrease in weight, decrease in urine output, call provider
Yeast Infection 7 day Monistat vaginal cream Call if no relief

Preparing for the birth of your baby is an exciting and sometimes overwhelming experience. Through education you can develop an understanding of what you can expect to occur during the birthing process. Breastfeeding and Lactation
Breastfeeding is the best way to feed your baby. It not only creates a bond between you and your baby, but it also provides the best nutrition for your infant.  Breastfeeding also protects your baby against many illnesses. Click here for more information on breastfeeding your baby.

La Leche League International is a breastfeeding support group that has been in existence for over 50 years. Their mission is to “help mothers worldwide to breastfeed through mother-to-mother support, encouragement, information and education and to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the baby and mother.” (La Leche League International, 2008)  Click here to view their website as a resource for support, information and products related to breastfeeding.
